Edit sermon captions without losing the message
Graftonite is a free sermon caption editor that lets you change caption text and choose from multiple text animations. You can also extend a suggested clip when the surrounding words are needed. It runs on macOS and Windows, with sermon processing on your computer.
A guide from Graftonite · Free software for church media teams
Can you edit the words in automatically generated captions?
Yes. Graftonite lets you edit the text of your sermon captions before exporting the video. You can correct transcription errors rather than being limited to changing a font, color, or caption style.
For church media, review proper names, Bible books, place names, and words that sound similar. Listen to the source audio as you make a correction. The goal is to represent the speaker accurately, not to rewrite their message into a different claim.
For example, if a biblical name is transcribed as a common English word, correct the name in the caption and replay that moment. Then check the neighboring captions so the sentence still reads naturally as it appears on screen.
Choose text animations that help people follow along
Graftonite includes multiple caption text animations. Try a treatment on a representative section of the clip before applying your preferred look to the finished video. The best choice for a quiet explanation may be different from the choice for a fast illustration.
Prioritize readability over movement. Make sure the words stay on screen long enough to follow, use a clear contrast against the footage, and keep the text away from the speaker’s face. Watch without sound to check whether a viewer can still follow the idea.
Make a suggested sermon clip longer
You do not have to accept the suggested clip length. Graftonite lets you extend a clip to include more of the original sermon. This is useful when an illustration needs its setup or a statement needs the explanation that follows it.
After extending the clip, review the captions in the added portion and watch across the old boundary. Check that the start is understandable and the ending is complete. A longer clip should add necessary context rather than simply add more footage.
A caption review checklist for church volunteers
Use the same short review for every export, even if the caption style is already familiar. Text that looked comfortable in a landscape preview can feel crowded in a vertical crop.
Graftonite’s caption editing, clip adjustments, and export workflow are available in the free desktop app. No account is required, and the full sermon does not need to be uploaded for processing.
- Listen for any mismatch between the spoken words and the captions.
- Check the spelling of names and Scripture references.
- Preview the chosen text animation at the speed of the actual speech.
- Watch the final crop on a small screen and check the edges of the text.
- Review any additional footage included by extending the clip.
Try it with your next sermon.
